Dr. and Mrs. Douglas R. Broome

Dr. Doug Broome is the son of H.R. (Jack) and Laverna Broome.  He was born in Natchez, MS.  A few weeks later his family moved to Jackson and subsequently to Terry, MS where Dr. Broome grew up and attended both school (Terry Academy) and church (First Baptist).  As a student in high school, Dr. Broome lettered in five sports (football, basketball, baseball, track, and tennis).

After graduating from high school Dr. Broome pursued a career as a dental equipment technician for the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.  While serving in this capacity, Dr. Broome sensed that God was calling him into the Gospel ministry.  He responded to this call by resigning his position at the Dental School and sought to prepare himself for ministry by seeking degrees at Clarke College (A.A.), Mississippi College (B.A.), and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry).  Dr. Broome served two churches during his days as a student: Forest Baptist Church (Forest, MS); Student Minister and Missions Pastor and Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church (Crystal Springs, MS); Associate Pastor.

Dr. Broome has served as Senior Pastor of three churches: Pearlhaven Baptist Church (Brookhaven, MS), Calvary Baptist Church (Waynesboro, MS) and First Baptist Church (Yazoo City, MS).  Dr. Broome has held multiple positions in the local associations where he has served.  He has also been selected for numerous roles in the MS Baptist Convention.  He currently serves on the Board for the Christian Action Commission and is a member of the Order of Business Committee responsible for planning the annual meetings of the MS Baptist Convention.

He has participated in mission trips to New Orleans, Utah, Mexico and Africa.  In 2007, Dr. Broome partnered with consultants at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board to explore ways to implement the concept of becoming a Great Commission Church.

Dr. Broome and his wife Gwenette have been married for 27 years.  They are the parents of one son, Bradley (age 22), a graduate of Mississippi College.  Bradley works as an appraiser for Capitol Body Shop in Jackson, MS.  Gwenette currently serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church.  She is also the head tennis coach for Manchester Academy.  Dr. Broome is an avid weight lifter, runner, and cyclist.  He competes in both triathlons and running events.  Dr. Broome also serves as a personal trainer for high school girls as well as girls track coach for Benton Academy.
